The team celebrates their state qualifier

The Coppell High School tennis team sent a record number of players to Waco for the Region 2-6A tournament and those players represented their school well. The team battled through injuries, LONG rain delays, and a Couple of grueling 3 set matches.

Day 1 was slowed by 5 separate rain delays. 4 of Coppell’s 8 entries advanced to the regional Quarterfinals:

Erin & Nicole Crumpler defeated Houston MacArthur 6-0,6-0

Micah Abaya & Sneha Banerjee defeated Houston MacArthur 6-1,6-0

Victor Kalev & Brian Nguyen defeated Round Rock Westwood 7-5,6-1

and Justin Chen defeated Houston Stratford 6-4,6-1

Two of those quarter finalists advanced to the semifinals:

Victor & Brian defeated Austin Anderson 6-1,6-3 before falling to the #1 seeded team from Houston Memorial. They ended up finishing 4th in the region.

Justin Chen defeated the 2 seed from Austin Anderson 6-3,6-3 in the semis, and went on to defeat Houston Memorial 6-2,6-7(10-12),6-1 in the finals (a match that lasted over 3 hours).

Justin will now represent the Cowboys at the state tournament in College Station on May 18-19.
